Alston Lane Third World Group

In 1987 a group of parishioners joined forces, drew up a constitution and

was formed, with the aims of promoting the Christian Gospel through prayer, and, the financial support of missionary and other charitable activities in the Third World.

The present group of 10 meet informally 3 or 4 times yearly to discuss future fundraising events. The most important of theses meetings being the A.G.M. held in February of each year.

At two of the meetings the Mission Boxes from the parish are collected in, emptied, monies counted and dispatched to the Mill hill Missionaries, and the boxes re-labelled ready for collection by the charity’s supporters.

If you feel you would like to participate in the scheme, let one of the scheme know and you will receive a box – it’s a great way of getting rid of all that annoying change that clogs up your purse or makes holes in your pockets, with the added bonus that your money is going to make a difference to someone’s life.

During the year we hold a number of enjoyable fund-raising events, the most popular being our Harvest Supper, when a good time is had by all, youngsters and not so young.

A cheese and wine evening is also popular as is our Cream Tea held in a group member’s garden.

Grimsargh Field Day provides another opportunity to raise a substantial amount of money with our famous Cake Stall.

Advent is the time for us to hold the last of our yearly fundraisers with the “Buy a Square and win a Case of Wine” competition- always a popular event.

Of course all of this would not be achieved without the help of Canon H. Doyle who welcomes us and allows us to use the Caton Room, and also gives us full support.

We must thank our parishioners, families and friends for help and financial support so generously given.

If you are interested in joining us at any of our events watch out for notices on the board in the church porch, come along; you are sure of a welcome and a pleasant few hours in good company.

In 2013 almost £1200 was raised, all of which will be donated to small and local organisations in various parts of the 3rd World, where we know that money will be spent as aid to our brothers and sisters in need, and not lost in administration.

A copy of the financial summary and the minutes are posted on the church notice board in the week following our A.G.M.

Please remember our endeavours in your prayers, that we may continue to do our best to help those who have so little when we have so much.
